Programme

  • Political Outlook of China under President Xi Jinping | Emilie Tran
Under the leadership of Xi Jinping, China has defined and implemented a series of policies in domestic and international affairs that distinguish Xi from his predecessors. That talk will review those policies and their impact both on the Chinese and in global politics.

Bionote: Emilie Tran is Dean of the Faculty of Leadership and Administration & Programme Coordinator of Government Studies at University of Saint Joseph, Macao.

  • Segmented Communication: The Internet and Its Many Challenges to Authority in China | Eric Sautedé
With the development of the commercial Internet starting in 1994, many analysts had predicted that this "technology of liberation" would slowly but surely erode the grip of the Party-State in Communist China. Yet, once again, Chinese characteristics have prevailed, and despite the ever more challenging and segmented new means of communication, the Party-State has been able to adapt and possibly come up with a renewed and strengthened social contract.

Bionote: Eric Sautedé was up to July 2014 a research Coordinator and lecturer in politics in the Faculty of Administration and Leadership at the University of Saint Joseph, Macao.
