PhD Science and Technology of the Arts

The PhD (180 ECTS) takes 6 semesters.

The Program is an innovative proposal in which creators in the field of Sound and Interactive Arts with experience and knowledge in different areas of science and technology of the arts, are able to develop their research skills within areas of interest arising from their professional work.

Besides the regional and national academic contribution and impact that this study program sets out to achieve, there is also an aspiration to create an alternative to international opportunities and fill a space in a European context, in which research and development activities at the borderline between Science, Technology and the Arts are still emerging.

The doctoral program in Sciences and Technologies of the arts assumes a research profile and its main goal is to train researchers in the areas related to artistic creation based on digital technologies and platforms. In this context the PhD students are oriented through a pedagogical process divided into two moments: 1. the initial training period; 2. the experimental research period.

The extent to which the program’s specific objectives are fulfilled are validated by the regular production of:

  • A significant set of research works properly fit in the area of Science and Technology of the Arts
  • Production of knowledge innovation under the scope of contemporary artistic creation, in the areas related to artistic creation based on digital technologies
  • Understand and analyze at a high and systematic complexity level, fundamental research issues under the scope of Sciences and Technologies of the Arts
  • Accomplishment of an original research work
