Research

In parallel with its teaching programmes, the ESB developed a semi-autonomous, research centre – the Centre of Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) with broad-based activities in the area of Biotechnology and Nutrition, predominantly in the areas of food and the environment, and their links to health and well-being.

Since 2004 the CBQF has boasted the prestigious status of State Associated Laboratory, being the only non-state-owned in Portugal.

The ESB’s Teaching Programmes benefit greatly from their close links with the CBQF and the Extension Division, allowing students to integrate into R&D and other scientific teams, bringing them into direct contact with professionals in fields related with course subject matter. The goal is to offer, throughout the degree, a vision of the professional and educational opportunities which the course subject provides, whilst exposing students to the responsibilities – and the expressive/creative opportunities – which working in this area entails.
