Overview

Mission

Competition Law is an essential instrument for the efficient working of the European Common Market. European Competition Law aims to avoid competition distortion in the European Market through the control of anticompetitive company practices, concentrations and State aids. Competition defense rules help accomplish many objectives, such as consumers’ protection and economic efficiency, thereby contributing to economic progress and social well-being. The analysis of judicial and administrative decisions in this scope, as well as of the doctrinaire developments following therefrom, is the main mission of the Observatory of Competition Law Enforcement.

Objective

The Observatory on Competition Law Enforcement – co-financed by the European Commission – aims to allow all stakeholders – academics, jurists, lawyers, magistrates, economists and public authorities – a broader understanding and, consequently, a more effective enforcement of competition law. The Observatory aims to develop extensive research on the enforcement of competition law by national, European and international courts and tribunals, to follow ongoing legislative procedures is this field and to invest in relevant doctrinaire reflections on competition matters. The Observatory will also implement advanced training programmes for academics and practitioners, magistrates and entrepreneurs, increasing the awareness about the importance of competition law and the consequences of its violations.
